Passive shimming

Passive (B0) shimming is the process by which variations in the magnetic field of an MRI scanner are reduced through the addition of material that counteracts the distortions present in the magnetic field. This can be done by adding material with a different susceptability than that from air and using this to shape the magnetic field or by adding additional magnetised material to the system.
